A Legacy of Excellence

Delt Heritage

Delta Tau Delta was founded in 1858 at Bethany College in present day West Virginia. Eight men, angered by a fixed vote for a prize in oratory to be given at the Neotrophian Literary Society (a forum for students to practice and demonstrate skills in poetry, public speaking and writing essays), responded by forming a secret society. The purpose of the new society, known only by the Greek letters Delta Tau Delta, was to see the Neotrophian Society returned to popular control from the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and to form an organization of the student body drawn together by common aims, brotherly regard and desire for mutual support.

Delta Tau Delta was born of the knowledge that integrity is essential. The founding principles of Truth, Courage, Faith and Power have provided a guide for both the Fraternity and its membership. The fraternity is actively represented at 134 schools with 129 chapter and six colonies in 39 states and the District of Colombia and an undergraduate membership of 9,375 men for the 13-14 school year.

The Zeta Chi Chapter was chartered April 13, 1986 and has enjoyed a rich history in its 31 years and 410+ initiated brothers.  The chapter has been recognized 10 times in its history with the Hugh Shields Award and 21 times as a Court of Honor chapter.  These awards recognize the 10 and 20 best chapters in the nation. Zeta Chi prides itself on its community and philanthropic endeavors with its partners JDRF and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Mississippi. Since starting Zeta Chi's CF philanthropy it has raised over $500,000+ in which the brothers take huge pride in.  Zeta Chi also maintains the section of Hwy 49 between Wal-Mart and Southern Miss as an "Adopt-A-Highway" partner and participates in a number of service projects at Southern Miss.
